Susan Lanzoni, Portrait of Author

Susan Lanzoni is a writer and an historian of science. She has written on the modern history of psychiatry, psychology and neuroscience – the sciences of the mind. She earned her Ph.D. in the history of science department at Harvard University. She has written numerous peer-reviewed and popular articles on empathy, existential psychiatry, aesthetics, and mirror neurons. Susan has received a Fulbright Award, and two National Science Foundation Grants to pursue her research.  She has taught at Yale and Harvard Universities.

Her current writing projects include a popular and practical guide to the many varieties of empathy,  as well as an essay on the unity of mind and matter in the works of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry Thoreau.

Susan is also working as an empathy coach and consultant. She draws on her extensive historical and practical knowledge of empathy to inform effective, empathic methods of coaching to help individuals access their own aspirational goals in all facets of living.
